William Trubridge, a freediving athlete from New Zealand, stated that he was quite amazed by the beauty of Balongan Bay, the place where the freediving competition took place.
“The waves are pretty good, the water is clear; this kind of environment really gets us, freedivers, excited,” told Trubridge who contends along with 40 other freediving athletes.
The bay is around 130 meters deep. In the meantime, the world-record holder can go down up to 129 meters.
“Sabang has the best spots in the world; if you want to break a world record this is the place,” said Ramadhani, Aceh Culture and Tourism Agency’s marketing head.
In addition to freediving, Aceh also has at least 30 spots for diving such as Batee Tokong that is also home to sharks, Pantee Peunateung that has the depth of 30 meters and home to coral reefs, Arus Balee located in the middle of two small islands called Rubia and Seulako and is a great place for beginners, Batee Gla, Limbo Gapang, Sophime Rickmers and Sumur Tiga.
