The book is a vivid narration offering an informative account of the history of colonial empire in our country and makes for an interesting read.”
In this book, bestselling author Shashi Tharoor examines with acuity, impeccable research, and trademark wit, how impactful British rule was for India. Besides examining the many ways in which the colonizers ruled India, ranging from the drain of national resources to Britain, the subversion of the Indian textile, steel-making and shipping industries, and the transformation of agriculture, he demolishes the arguments of Western and Indian apologists for Empire on the benefits of British rule, including democracy and political freedom, the rule of law, the railways and throws light on the few unarguable benefits—the English language, tea, and cricket.
