Ornithologists are delighted to report a 67th bird species has been sighted at The Tongsai Bay Hotel, Koh Samui, Thailand. The esteemed five-star hotel is renowned for its lush vegetation that currently attracts 66 different species of birds and is proud to announce that this number has now increased to 67, as Dr. Kalpesh Jain, a guest staying at a nearby hotel, spotted and photographed the Black-Naped Monarch at The Tongsai Bay during a recent day visit to the property.
Dr. Kalpesh Jain requested to view the lush gardens and tropical vegetation with Chief Environmentalist, Hong, as he has an interest in ornithology and was deligted with his discovery. Black-Naped Monarchs belong to the family of Monarch Flycatchers found in southern and south-east Asia. The male species of these charming birds are bright blue and have a distinctive black patch on the back of their heads and a narrow, black half collar. The female is duller with olive-brown wings. To date, it is only the male birds that have been spotted on the grounds of the Tongsai Bay Hotel.
