The Fladgate Partnership will start working next month on a €100 million visitor attraction known as “the world of wine” located on the southern side of the Douro in Porto, Portugal. Adrian Bridge, CEO of the company said the proposed facility will have a museum on Porto’s history, a museum on the cork industry, a wine school, a slow food restaurant and events space, nine other restaurants, a retail area, a fashion and a design museum.
Mr. Bridge said his company would start working on the site in November and The World of Wine is expected to open in 2020. He said that there would be no problems with funding for this project and this attraction would attract around one million visitors annually and would exceed the number in the coming years.
Mr. Bridge said that hotel revenues in Portugal have increased by 50% in the last four years, pointing to the expanding tourism industry in Porto. The World of Wine will be constructed on a site in Vila Nova de Gaia on the southern banks of the river Douro. The site is currently filled with empty warehouses.
