New Amtrak Thruway Bus Connections now enable Amtrak passengers to make nightly connections between Amtrak Trains 3 & 4, the Southwest Chief, at Newton, Kan., and Amtrak Trains 821 & 822, the Heartland Flyer, at Oklahoma City, via the Wichita, Kan., bus station currently at 312 South Broadway St.
The schedules, now bookable via Amtrak.com, smartphone apps or by calling 800-USA-RAIL, open Wichita to more than 500 Amtrak destinations in 46 states, the District of Columbia and three Canadian Provinces. This Thruway Bus Connection is one of only two such connections between Amtrak routes in the western U.S.
Same-day travel to popular Midwestern destinations such as Kansas City and Chicago or Texas destinations such as Fort Worth and San Antonio is now possible with the service operated by Village Tours of Wichita, under contract with Amtrak. See attached schedule.
Here are some coach fares (adult, each way, as low as, subject to further discounts):
Wichita to Kansas City $60 Wichita to Chicago $116
Wichita to Ft. Worth $64 Wichita to San Antonio $92
Wichita to Los Angeles $148 Wichita to New York City $201
Wichita has not been served directly by Amtrak since 1979, when service by Trains 15 & 16, the Lone Star, was discontinued along with some other national network routes.
