Tianguis Turístico is a Spanish business meetings event which would be held at Acapulco this year. With striking displays, Tianguis Turístico 2017 has brought to the forefront a new topic of conversation – ‘the significance of tech, trends and social media for Mexico Tourism’.
Lourdes Behro, Mexico Tourism Board CEO explained a new platform for ‘visitmexico.com’. With a completely new look, this site has a great back-end system that recognizes user preferences via Big Data and adjust offerings according to that.
Jorge Ruiz, Director of Facebook Mexico, also highlighted the need for destinations and tourism providers to get associated with the digital eco-system. 2017 has been declared as the ‘International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development’ by UN and the Tianguis Turístico organizers took a cue from it and made this first event carbon neutral. A Silver EarthCheck-certified Expo Mundo Imperial Acapulco Diamante was the host for the event. Also, to save paper, all information was provided via online and app.
A new tagline has also been created for the event by the Mexico Tourism Board. It was inspired by the words of Taleb Rifai, UN World Tourism Organization General Secretary and a special guest of President Enrique Peña Nieto during the inaugural ceremonies.
