A Timmins festival is a finalist for a provincial tourism award.

 

The Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) declared today the names of the finalists for the Tourism Industry Awards of Excellence. The Great Canadian Kayak Challenge and Festival is one of three finalists for the Tourism Event of the Year, with Blumination and Supercrawl being the other two.

 

The award is for a festival or event presents the industry with the best practices and is open to a variety of different events.

 

As per TIAO, the finalists are actually selected by independent committees of industry representatives.

 

On Oct. 30th, the names of the winners will be announced at the Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence during the 2019 Ontario Tourism Summit at Blue Mountain Village Inn and Conference.

 

Besides the festival being a finalist, Tourism Timmins’ Guy Lamarche will be picking up some hardware at the summit as well.

 

It was lately unvelied that Lamarche is one of two recipients of the 2019 Tourism Industry Award of Excellence’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He is being honoured side by side Ian McMillan, who is the international marketing specialist for Destination Northern Ontario at present.

 

Lamarche and McMillan will be honoured at a special Lifetime Achievement Award lunch during the summit.
