Today, the Odisha government came to a conclusion to divide the tourism and culture department and side by side take slew measures in developing Odia Language Commission in order to spread and popularize the official language of the state.
At the meeting of the state Cabinet, the following decision was taken which was arranged for the first time at Puri, as an alternative in Bhubaneswar.
Also, the government decided to develop a ‘Heritage Cabinet’ in order to safeguard the monuments, old temples and take measures to protect the culture, language and literature of the state, Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda informed the reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
The Odisha Government after splitting the tourism and culture department, was determined to rename the cultural wing as Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, Panda mentioned.
Explaining that the government has adopted many decisions and measures to augment the Odia language, the minister stated the Odisha Official Language Act, 1954 will be amended very soon and policies will be made for punishment for violation of rules.
In the state, it’s mandatory that all shops and business establishments will have to display signboards written in Odia language within a set timeframe for which Odisha Shops and Commercial Establishment rules, 1956 would be amended. In case of violation of this rule, there would be provision for punishment as well.
