A short-term commission has been officially set up to allow a nonprofit convention of the future and visitors bureau that would ultimately assist in endorsing many tourism, business and recreational activities in the village.
“This Convention and Tourism Commission is sort of a place holder or a bridge until we could create the actual bureau,” said Tom Shircel, the village’s interim administrator.
On Monday night, the Village Board has accepted the ordinance in creating the interim commission, which will comprise six members, including one representative from a hotel or motel enterprise. Comprising the commission would be members with “recognized experience and qualifications” on the all-volunteer panel, as per the ordinance. Shircel said that the commission would be effective from Jan 1st. Members would be nominated by the Village Board president for a period of one and two-year terms. Three members would provide one-year terms, whereas the other three would serve two-year terms. At the opening in the year 2019, however, the appointments would turn annually approved before May of 2019. Monthly the members would meet or as needed, as per the village ordinance.
