In the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) 2019 Safe Cities Index, Tokyo took the spot of the wold’s safest city for the third time and was followed by Singapore and Osaka.
Factors like health, personals and digital security were considered in the index which ranked 60 cities. Environmental factors like ‘urban resilience’ was also considered this year which the ability of a city to bounce back from a shock.
It was noted that two European cities made to the top 10, Amsterdam rose from sixth to the fourth place this year and Copenhagen had tied with Seoul at the eight place.
Sydney, Toronto, Washington and Melbourne took the fifth, sixth, seventh and tenth spot respectively.
It was found that six out of the 20 safest cities were in Europe which included Stockholm (12th), London (14th), Frankfurt (16th) and Zurich (tied 18th).
Istanbul and Moscow fell below the average score of 71.2 globally out of the 14 European cities in the Index.
In the health security European cities tend to struggle in the category of the digital security and London is the only European city in the top 10 in this category.
As per the index Lagos, Caracas, Yangon, Karachi and Dhaka were the least five safe cities.
