Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the 2017 Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade will be held at 8pm tomorrow (28 January) in Tsim Sha Tsui. It is one of the main HKTB events commemorating the 20 th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region this year. Themed “Best Fortune. World Party.”, the parade features 10 festive floats, as well as 13 local and 13 international performing groups from 11 countries and regions. There will be around 3,000 performers, the largest number in the event’s history. The parade will start at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza and proceed along Canton Road, Haiphong Road and Nathan Road, ending outside the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers.
The HKTB has also arranged for roving performances presented by nearly 30 performing groups to warm up the crowd along the parade route starting at 6pm. Close to 350 local youngsters will act as “Lucky Buddies”, giving out about 13,000 festive gift packs as an expression of good wishes, and Russian confectionery artist “Candy King” will ensure spectators have a sweet beginning to the Year of the Rooster with his handmade cotton candy.
Tourists and members of the public are invited to enjoy the spectacle up-close tomorrow and soak in the festive spirit along the parade route in Tsim Sha Tsui. TVB Jade will broadcast the parade live from 8pm to 9.45pm, and the HKTB will engage a worldwide audience by providing satellite and fibre transmission of the parade to global television stations, major newswires and international cruise liners for live broadcast.
