Giving is better than receiving. For a second year running, airberlin‘s frequent flyer programme, topbonus, has chosen not to offer gifts to its most frequent flyers. So instead, topbonus and airberlin will donate 3,000 award miles per Platinum member to the charity “Fly & Help”. The organisation, founded by Reiner Meutsch, aims to promote education, and uses donations primarily to build new schools in developing countries.
The proceeds of this year’s topbonus and airberlin Christmas fundraiser will go entirely towards the construction of a school in Cuba. “It’s important that children get a good education locally. They can thus get valuable qualifications, so they can pursue careers with prospects and gain access to a better life. That’s why we have decided to work with Fly & Help to support this worthy project in 2016,” said Anton Lill, CEO of topbonus.
topbonus members can donate additional miles or make a cash donation via the shop.topbonus.de website. The fundraising goal for the construction of the school is 100,000 euros – the amount required for the project in Cuba.
Tourism is a growth driver for Cuba. airberlin already flies to Varadero. From May 2016, the airline will also fly to Havana. “It therefore stands to reason that, together with our frequent flyer programme, we should get involved in a corporate social responsibility project. I am particularly pleased that we can involve our best customers through the initiative of topbonus,” said airberlin CEO Stefan Pichler.
