Students from the Seychelles Tourism Academy held their own stall at the FetAfrik Trade Fair that was organized by the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industries to mark the 2015 FetAfrik (Africa Day in Seychelles).
This cultural event received this year the support of the Business Community in a display of togetherness for the consolidation of the island’s tourism industry through culture. This appeal made by the President of the Republic some four years ago and agin was the focus of the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organisation) and UNESCO during their joint Ministerial meeting of Tourism and of Culture Ministers that has held in Cambodia earlier this year.
The Seychelles Business Community has now come out offering unconditional support for the country’s approach to consolidate its tourism industry through culture and protect the island’s culture using tourism. The Seychelles Tourism Academy needs to be congratulated for being present at the FetAfrik Trade Fair with they stall to showcase what they are learning in the Wellness & Spa course. They manned their stall set up as a small treatment centre which attracted many wanted to see the young Seychellois now being prepared for the tourism industry. Tourism Trade members and especially Hotel and Resorts Management who visited the Trade Fair stopped at this Tourism Academy Stall as did Alain St.Ange, the seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture. The Tourism Academy is now benefiting from the support of Gersende Eichler who is the Consultant overseeing this Wellness & Spa course. The Minister who was being accompanied by Anne Lafortune, the PS for Tourism and Benjamine Rose, the PS for Culture was shown around the FetAfrik Trade Fair by Marco Francis, the Chairman of the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
Minister St.Ange said as he visited the Tourism Academy students at their FetAfrik Trade Fair Stall that he was proud of them. “The whole tourism industry should be proud of you. We want to grow our tourism strength and for this we need good and well trained Seychellois to become the backbone of our industry. This display by our your trainees shows the determination of the Government to deliver for the tourism trade qualified team members. This is all part of our drive to put more emphasis on the product side of our tourism industry and in so doing look at the yield from the tourism industry with wider lens possible. We all know of the shortfalls and challenges we currently face and we also know that these will not be resolved by themselves. The small industry players who are all Seychellois entrepreneurs are making their case for a greater share of the tourism arrival numbers and Government is today exploring ways and means to ensure they succeed in the industry that remains the pillar of the Seychelles economy” said Miniser St.Ange at the FetAfrik Trade Fair.
