According to Li Jinzao, Chairman of the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), tourism accounted for more than 10% to China’s wealth and employment in the first nine months of 2016. Jinzao said at the Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF) in Macau that domestic tourism has grown by more than 11% this year and inbound and outbound tourism saw a 13.5% growth. Tourism revenues have grown by 3.7% compared to last year. Jinzao congratulated the GTEF’s efforts and the tourism industry’s important role in world economic development and also commented on the current improvements in China’s tourism industry. He said that tourism is the world’s biggest industry with continuous growth and China is now the world’s biggest outbound tourism market, contributing more than 13% to world tourism revenue every year on average.
He also mentioned the plans by which China wishes to promote tourism and that innovation is the key for success in this sector. He mentioned the role of tourism in attracting investment and the role this industry plays to reduce poverty by increasing incomes and improving integrated development. Jinzao also praised the Macau government’s efforts in tourism development in recent years.
