This traverse expedition, first of its kind took place with the help of the Department of Tourism, Kashmir, in partnership with Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club (JKMHC). It started from Kargil to Pahalgam via Suru La and Gulol Gali passes. On August 11th, the trekkers started their journey from Kargil and completed the tiring expedition on Friday.
This expedition was the first Trans Himalayan Traverse that started from Kargil towards Suru Valley and Zanskar Valley. Also, it was one of the toughest trekking routes for adventure junkies in comparison to other Himalayan routes.
The team had the members from Tourism Department, JKMHC, AKTTA and Roots Ladakh.
The trekking started from Maita in Suru Valley and gradually ascended the Shanshinala crossed Suru La, located 16142 feet above the sea level to finally arrive at Sain Nala based in upper Wadwan area of Kishtawar.
While descending, the team reached Rangmarg meadow and then ascended the 14326 feet high Gulol Gali to reach Pahalgam.
Ghulam Rasool Lal from Tourism department was the team leader of this thrilling expedition. He said that they reviewed and explored this Trans Himalayan Traverse to create and insert the newly discovered trekking route on tourist map for the aspirant tourists of the future.
