The 5th Thailand International Film Destination Festival 2017 (TIFDF) has recently been announced by the Department of Tourism with a target to push and establish Thailand as the best film location in the world. “FASCINATING DESTINATION” has been the theme of this year’s festival. The festival is all geared up to focus on promoting the eight tourism clusters in Thailand among international filmmakers through a series of activities like short film competition where film students from all over the world would participate. Besides, short film competition for Thai students is yet another activity of this festival. “Tourism Linked to Royal Projects” would be the theme of the activity to pay homage to His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Participants have the liberty to decide any of 29 Royal Projects selected for this competition. Side by side, there will be screening of famous films shot in Thailand for the Thai audiences to see and appreciate as well.
To quote Tourism and Sports Minister Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, ‘tourism and Sports Ministry is directly responsible for tourism. We have tourism strategies which aim to generate income for the country, bring income to communities, improve the quality of life for Thai people, and add value to Thailand’s tourism. We have many beautiful destinations in Thailand, and the international film industry is directly linked to Thailand’s tourism. This not only brings in a large amount of money to our country, but also helps promote Thailand’s beautiful destinations internationally. TIFDF has been held annually since 2013 with an aim to attract those in the film industry to shoot films in Thailand.’
