Tourism executives of Brevard are keen on revamping hotel room tax

Tourism BrevardThe tourism officials of Space Coast are all geared up to bring some changes in five percent of Brevard County’s Tourist Development Tax spent on various hotel rooms and different short-term rentals.

As per the plan presented by Space Coast Office of Tourism Executive Director Eric Garvey:

The anticipated changes which require approval by the Brevard County Commission would be the modification in the tax setup ever since 2005, when the hotel tax grew from 4 to 5 percent.

The proposal of Garvey says that the tax would remain at 5 percent. However, the manner in which the tax is shared would change.

The anticipated change would yield good results by establishing bonds for construction of Space Coast Stadium in Viera. So far, 18 percent of the Tourist Development Tax had been allotted for the stadium. Nonetheless, under the proposal of Garvey, only 3 percent of the tax would go to the stadium whatsoever.
