Last year witnessed a substantial rise in the number of travellers arriving in the mountainous region of Adjara, as declared by the Adjara Tourism Department. As compared to the year 2015, the number of visitors to the favorable locales of this part of the world increased to about 107%, with as many as 5513 visits.
Keda, Khikhani and Machakhela are some of the tourist destinations that are truly the most popular ones throughout the year.
No wonder, these places boast of a large number of family hotels to cater to the rising number of tourists. The tourism report has stated that about 244% of tourists visit Machakhela, 113% in Khizkhadziri and 99% of people end up visiting Keda.
Also, the number of family hotels in these locales has also risen.
The year 2016 have observed over 20 family hotels serving guests that mark an increase of 33% from that of 2015.
Furthermore, the number of tourists who have been heading to museums in Adjara was quite high. About 13,628 tourists have made trips to the museums located in Selim Khimshiashvilim Keda abd Chkhutuneti. This has had a positive impact on the number of tourists dining in the restaurants in this region.
These statistics have been made as per the information shared by the Tourist Product Development Agency that have been collected from the owners of family type hotels and also restaurants.
The Agency has been working with an aim to promote touristic products and services since the end of 2015.
Tinatin Zoidze, the Dorector of Tourism Product Development Agency said that the Agency has played an active role throughout the year 2016 to develop the tourism products of Adjara. He added that in 2016, Khikhani wine locales, Keda and Machakhela have been marked and also developed.
Zoidze also added that they had organized 18 info tours and also trained 18 tour guides.
More than 300 tourists had the opportunity to get introduced to the different varieties of products and services that are now available.
