Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Croatia Gari Cappelli inaugurated the fifth Adria Hotel Forum at the Sheraton Hotel on February 8, 2017. The two-day event is a leading hotel-investment conference of Europe, bringing hotel and tourism representatives together from all over the region. It has the slogan “Development and Beyond”.
Minister Cappelli said that tourism is one of the most important economic activities in Croatia and constitutes important part of Croatian economy. Tourism contributes about 18% national GDP of Croatia and tourism-related employment is around 9%. Foreign currency income from tourism in 2015 for Croatia amounted to 7.9 billion Euros, 8.5 billion Euros in 2016 and is expected to hit 14.5 billion Euros by 2020.
Minister Cappelli stressed the importance of reducing non-tax levies, health tourism and investment in four and five star hotels in Croatia. He pledged about investing around 800 million Euros in tourism this year. Security in Croatia is one of the main reasons that attract tourists. It’s 12th among the countries in Southern and Western Europe, after Spain, France and Italy as a competitive tourist destination.
