The RACT and RACV’s investment in Tasmania’s tourism and hospitality sectors is a sign of the significant confidence in our record breaking industry.
The RACT and RACV have already started transforming the Hobart Apartment Hotel, with a $1.6 million investment in upgrading 125 apartment bathrooms, which were completed by Tasmanian contractors TasCon.
The second stage will include refurbishing the heritage-listed Cascade Traders building with a new bar and members lounge facilities, a new gym, a board style meeting room and an upgrade to the Charcoal restaurant and kitchens.
This multi-million dollar project will not only create jobs during the construction phase, it will result in as many as 20 additional hospitality jobs once it is completed. Tenders will be called for the work in the next few weeks.
It is clear that the RACT and the RACV share in our commitment to investing in our competitive strengths, like tourism and hospitality.
Over the past year Tasmania’s tourism and hospitality sectors have rewritten the record books, from breaking the billion dollar tourist spending mark, to being ranked in the top four 2015 “must see” destinations in the world by Lonely Planet.
We are committed to building on the momentum in our tourism industry, and have committed an additional $8 million in the State Budget to help maintain the growth.
Our investment together with that made by the RACT and the RACV will further help us achieve our commitment to attract 1.5 million visitors to our state every year by 2020, which the industry tells us will create an additional 8,000 jobs.
