The Director-General of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), Folorunsho Folarin-Coker, said that the tourism sector can emerge to be highly prospective if the structures and facilities in the industry are fully optimized. He spoke on strategies to rejuvenate the sector and other issues.
In Nigeria, tourism has become a new medium of cultural expression in recent times. Other than tourism, the Nigerian film and fashion industries are also quite impressive.
One of the biggest problems in Nigeria is, when something goes right, it’s not sustained in the proper way. There are some traditional forms of tourism in Nigeria that have not been invested in properly. The Director-General said that domestic tourism is the only sustainable form of tourism that one can ever get. It is the only form of tourism that can withstand shock and as for infrastructure, Nigeria has infrastructure, which needs to be developed, especially for the tourism industry.
