South Africa’s tourism industry has been described as the country’s proverbial pot of gold by Josiah Montsho, the general manager at Pepperclub Hotel & Spa. As per figures released by Cape Town International Airport and top tourist destinations, the tourism industry of South Africa will provide an invaluable contribution to the GDP of the nation in 2017.
The tourism industry of South Africa is one of the main economic contributors taking the industry to the next level and improving local economy in return. To quote Montsho, ‘’ After experiencing the biggest decline in six years in 2015 due to changes to VISA and immigration policies, the industry has made an exceptional recovery’’.
He further adds, ‘’ Cape Town, in particular, reported a bumper peak season – with most of the popular tourist attractions reporting record preliminary visitor numbers for December 2016. We too have noted the increase in visitors, observing an uptick in guests staying at Pepperclub Hotel & Spa over the festive season’’.
2016 witnessed almost 10 million passengers at Cape Town International Airport with 8 percent increase year after year being the highest number recorded ever. Montsho points out by saying ‘’ As South Africa offers international travelers a variety of experiences at an affordable price, it comes as no surprise that the country has quickly regained its popularity amongst travelers.
We can expect this trend to continue into 2017 – with more developments planned to attract a range of travelers to our shores, for both business and leisure.”
