Leading Dutch tour operators, travel agents and travel writers make their way to this important travel expo each year, as well as many thousands of Dutch holidaymakers in search of ideas and suggestions for their next short break or holiday destination. In 2015, the-six day event attracted more than 117,000 visitors.
Karen van der Horst, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for the Netherlands, said: “Vakantiebeurs is our first major promotion of 2016, providing an excellent opportunity to position the island of Ireland as a ‘must see’ destination. This year, Tourism Ireland will continue to promote the distinctiveness of a holiday in Ireland, the good value available and the ease of access from the Netherlands. 2015 was a very good year for visitor numbers from the Benelux region to Ireland, with the most recent CSO figures showing an increase of +38% for September to November. Tourism Ireland will roll out an extensive programme of promotional activity throughout 2016 – to keep the momentum going and build on that growth.”
Promoting the Wild Atlantic Way and the Causeway Coastal Route will continue to be a major focus of Tourism Ireland’s activity in the Netherlands, and elsewhere around the world, in 2016. The organisation will highlight Dublin and Belfast and will unveil Ireland’s Ancient East, as well as Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink. Tourism Ireland will also continue to highlight ease of access from the Netherlands to the island of Ireland.
