Tourism Ireland has scooped a top travel award in Italy. The annual awards of the Italian Association of Travel Journalists (GIST – Gruppo Italiano Stampa Turistica) took place in Milan recently, assessing the work of 40 different tourist boards, and Tourism Ireland took the top award for ‘best digital communication’.

In their citation, GIST said: “Turismo Irlandese has been constantly improving the quality of its digital communication throughout the past year. Particular areas of excellence include the quality of the content and ideas provided to journalists through its media and consumer websites.”
Niamh Kinsella, Tourism Ireland’s manager Italy, said: “We are delighted that our digital activity has been singled out for this award by the Italian Association of Travel Journalists. Tourism Ireland has been working hard to build awareness of the island of Ireland among Italian travellers. We are constantly looking at innovative and engaging ways of reaching potential holidaymakers, so we are particularly honoured to receive this award.

“Italy is an important market for tourism to the island of Ireland and 2015 looks set to be another record year for Italian visitors, with the latest CSO figures showing an increase of +25% for August to October. We are determined to ensure that growth continues. We have a busy promotional campaign under way right now – aimed at boosting late-season travel to Ireland from Italy and at positioning us well for 2016.”
