Tourism Ireland supported the recent UK premiere of ‘The Second Violinist’ – an opera written by Enda Walsh and produced by Landmark Productions and Irish National Opera – at the Barbican in London. The sponsorship was part of Tourism Ireland’s activity to highlight the island of Ireland to its ‘culturally curious’ audience in Great Britain.
Tourism Ireland invited influential travel and cultural journalists to attend the production, which was a highlight of Culture Ireland’s GB18 programme, a year-long focus on presenting Irish arts across Great Britain.
Julie Wakley, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Great Britain, said: “We were delighted to support the UK premiere of ‘The Second Violinist’. Tourism Ireland’s message for our ‘culturally curious’ audience in Britain is that Ireland is a cultural hub, with world-class events, festivals and talent. The ‘culturally curious’ travellers are typically independent, active sightseers, looking to visit new places and expand their experience by exploring culture, history and landscapes. Our support of ‘The Second Violinist’ at the Barbican fitted very well with this important demographic and was aimed at boosting travel to the island of Ireland.”
