Top lifestyle and travel journalists from France were in Northern Ireland this weekend, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Irish Celtic Generations, an Irish dancing production which is about to go on tour in France. The journalists – from a range of national and regional newspapers with a combined readership of more than 3 million – were here to learn the background story to this very successful show, which features the Titanic building and its links with Belfast. The show has already attracted audiences of over 200,000 around Europe.
Following an itinerary devised by Tourism NI, the group spent time at Titanic Belfast and SS Nomadic, before enjoying a guided tour of Belfast.
Monica MacLaverty, Tourism Ireland’s manager for southern Europe, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite this group of influential journalists to visit Belfast and learn more about the city’s connections with Titanic – helping us to spread the good news about the city and Northern Ireland through the media in France.
“The latest NISRA figures confirm that visitors from Mainland Europe to Northern Ireland increased by +14% in the first half of 2015. Tourism Ireland is determined to keep the momentum going and ensure that growth continues. We have a really extensive programme of promotions under way right now – aimed at boosting late-season travel to Northern Ireland from France and at positioning us well for 2016.”
