Tourism Ireland welcomes +18% growth in overseas visitor spend and +28% growth in holiday visitors for Q1 2016

TOURISM IRELANDCommenting on today’s CSO figures for overseas tourism in the first quarter of 2016, Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Today’s CSO figures are really strong, confirming that revenue from overseas visitors to Ireland grew by +18% in the first three months of 2016, an additional €102 million for the Irish economy compared with Q1 in 2015. Total overseas visitors grew by +16%. Holiday visitors grew by +28%; and revenue from holidaymakers grew by +29%.”

Niall Gibbons continued: “This was an excellent performance and reflects the sentiment we’ve been hearing from our tourism partners overseas and here at home. As we head into the high season, we are determined to ensure that tourism growth continues. We have an extensive programme of promotions under way around the world, reminding prospective visitors everywhere that there has never been a better time to come and discover the island of Ireland.”
