Tourism Ireland warmly welcomed the announcement by CityJet of a new flight between London City Airport and Cork, which will commence on 1 October. Working closely with airlines to build demand for routes is a key priority for Tourism Ireland and this new flight will certainly provide a welcome boost for both business and leisure travel to Cork and the South of Ireland from the all-important British market.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “The introduction of this new CityJet flight is really good news and will certainly help boost both leisure and business travel from Britain to Cork and the South of Ireland in 2015. We look forward to working closely with CityJet to maximise the promotion of the new flight. As an island destination, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism.”
Great Britain is our largest tourism market and the most recent CSO figures show growth of +10% for January to May, more than 122,000 additional British visitors compared with the same five-month period last year.
