tourism-ireland1Tourism Ireland warmly welcomes today’s announcement by Aer Lingus of new flights to Dublin Airport, from April 2014, which will include a new service from Hanover in northern Germany. Tourism Ireland also welcomes the decision by Aer Lingus to increase frequency on some of its existing routes – in particular on services from Paris, Lyons, Munich and Copenhagen. These new and increased services will certainly provide a significant boost for Irish tourism from the German, French and Danish markets in 2014.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Today’s announcement is more good news for Irish tourism for 2014. We already work very closely with Aer Lingus and our teams in Germany, France and Scandinavia are looking forward to co-operating with Aer Lingus, to maximise the promotion of these new and expanded services to Dublin. As an island, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism. Tourism Ireland is committed to working with Aer Lingus, Dublin Airport and other tourism interests, through co-operative marketing, to drive demand for these flights – as we work with other carriers and partners to promote and help maintain vital routes and services to the island.”
Niall Gibbons continued: “Tourism from Mainland Europe is performing well this year – up over +5% for the January-September period, with record performances from Germany and France. We have also seen good increases from markets like the Nordic countries. And the outlook for 2014 is also positive – particularly in light of these new Aer Lingus services, as well as the new and extended Ryanair services to Dublin, Shannon and Knock Airports, launching just in time for the busy summer season, which will help keep the growth momentum going.”
