TOURISM IRELANDTourism Ireland warmly welcomes today’s announcement by Ryanair to open a new base at Belfast International Airport and commence a new service from London Gatwick. The service – which will commence in March and operate four times daily – will help boost tourism to Northern Ireland from the all-important GB market.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Today’s announcement is good news for tourism to Northern Ireland, as we kick off our 2016 promotional drive – particularly given Ryanair’s statement to introduce additional flights this autumn. We already work closely with Ryanair and we look forward to co-operating with them to maximise the promotion of this new flight from London Gatwick to Belfast. As an island, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism.”

In 2015, we welcomed about 1.9 million overseas visitors to Northern Ireland (+5% growth over 2014), contributing approximately £454 million in revenue to the local economy. Tourism Ireland is determined to ensure that this tourism growth continues and will roll out an extensive marketing plan around the world throughout 2016.
