TourismIreChinesePremier3Tourism Ireland has welcomed today’s visit by Chinese Premier HE Mr Li Keqiang, which is good news for Irish tourism and a wonderful opportunity to showcase Ireland to a huge audience of potential holidaymakers in China.

During his time here, Mr Li will enjoy the wonderful scenery, culture and hospitality of the western seaboard. The warm welcome extended to Mr Li will reinforce the image of Ireland as an exceptionally friendly and welcoming destination, alerting Chinese travellers to the sort of warm welcome they too can expect.

A large media contingent has travelled to Ireland with Mr Li, to cover the visit, bringing the story to millions of people in China. Tourism Ireland in China will capitalise on the visit, distributing footage of Ireland, as well as photographs of Mr Li’s time here, to influential Chinese travel and lifestyle media. Social media will also be used to highlight the visit; Tourism Ireland in China is active on Sina Weibo and Wechat, with almost 100,000 followers on the popular social networks.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “China is an important emerging travel market and one that Tourism Ireland is committed to growing over the coming years. With Ireland very much in the news spotlight in China during Mr Li’s time here, Tourism Ireland will take every opportunity to maximise the tourism benefits of his visit. Our aim is to grow the number of Chinese visitors to Ireland to 50,000 per year, by 2017.”

Tourism Ireland has offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu. The organisation’s promotional activity includes generating positive publicity for Ireland through the media, as well as online marketing. Tourism Ireland also undertakes co-operative promotions with key partners – including airlines and the travel trade. A key message for Tourism Ireland in China this year is the British-Irish Visa Scheme, which was launched last autumn and enables Chinese travellers to visit both Ireland and the UK on a single visa of either country.
