Mimidoo Osewe Mou, the Managing Director, Lovebet Hotels, Abuja, Nigeria is an expert on tourism development. She is passionate about the development of tourism sector in Nigeria. She believes that the development of the Nigerian tourism sector offers the fastest and cheapest way out of Nigeria’s present recession.
Mou said that she has worked in tourism and hospitality sectors for over 15 years with enough experience and insights into the sectors. She added that tourism has risen to become the fastest and cheapest sector for wealth creation, revenue generation, job creation and poverty eradication. Tourism Development is the best possible and cheapest way for the poor countries for rapid development, industrialization and prosperity.
Contrary to public belief, in Nigeria, the tourism sector is and will be even more lucrative and easier to develop for bringing Nigeria out of its current recession. It is also the easiest way for Nigeria to diversify from petroleum. This is because tourism costs far less to develop the sector compared to agriculture, mining, industry and other sectors. Yet, it employs comparatively more people and brings in faster revenues than any of these sectors. For Nigeria, tourism can lead to wealth creation, generate employment, reduce poverty and earn foreign exchange for the country.
Also, for the betterment of tourism in Nigeria, various challenges and crimes should be tackled diligently, so that tourists do not get threatened and decide to boycott visiting the country. Also trained manpower for quick development of tourism attractions in Nigeria is a major requirement.
