Visit OrlandoVisit Orlando perceives greater number of marketing opportunities in the future — and the tourism and marketing bureau of the region is looking for approval to increase funding for that.

The tourist development council of Orange County on Sept. 21 approved a $5 million rise in funding which at present awaits a future vote from the commission of the county. Marketing to international destinations like Brazil, Canada and the United Kingdom, along with tour operators, helps the region carry on growing its visitation rates and attract more tourists spending here.

Particularly, the funding is a $5 million renewal of the tourist development tax utilized for marketing, along with yet another $5 million in additional funding. That funding would be for the international and domestic marketing efforts to assist growing visitation even more, fight in terms of competitive marketing efforts, aid local room inventory growth, support the convention industry as well as sustain the efforts in attracting the next-generation family market.

Visitation to Orlando is an financial engine that aid the $70 billion tourism and travel industry of the region, along with the $2 billion in economic effect that comes from area conventions and trade shows.

George Aguel, president and CEO of Visit Orlando, informed the county leaders at the meeting that Orlando is continually struggling in terms of the efforts of other destinations — both U.S. and international — to attract more visitors, which he previously highlighted to OBJ as something that cannot be overlooked or taken for granted.

“When you are on top, there’s nowhere else to go but down, so our top job is to keep our dominant position. Everything we do from a business and philosophical objective is to make sure what we do, we also can sustain. We can’t rest with what we’ve done before — we need to look at what we can do next,” he previously told OBJ.
