EXPO 2017 and The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) are together planning to have a joint conference on “Tourism and the Energy of the Future” towards the end of June during the exhibition. The expo press office reported that over 150 tourism ministers will join in the event.
Taleb Rifai, UNWTO General Secretary and Akhmetzhan Yessimov, Astana Expo 2017 Board Chairman signed a note of collaboration between the company and UNWTO.
Yessimov said, “We believe that this forum held during our exhibition will become an effective platform for promoting sustainable tourism in Kazakhstan, because EXPO 2017 in Astana will be the largest international event next year and the UN WTO is the leading organisation in the field of tourism,” .
The memo hopes for contributions by people of the national company at United Nations World Tourism Organisation group discussions for the Silk Road programme, along with schooling instructors and tour operators in their roles of exhibition anchors.
Rifai said, “The memorandum will provide a new level of bilateral cooperation between our organisations and, hopefully, will make a significant contribution to the promotion of Kazakhstan’s tourism brand.”
According to the EXPO 2017 report which was put forward at the159th session of the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) General Assembly in Paris, there will be no visa requirements in Kazakhstan for Monaco, Malaysia, Singapore and 35 member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), many of them being members of the European Union (EU). This will definitely lead to more tourists coming to Kazakhstan during major events, which includes the Expo.
Approximately 5 million visits are anticipated at the exposition while will have around 3,000 activities with themes and entertainment shows within 90 days.
To make sure that more foreign travellers participate in these international events, and endorse the tourist spots along with growing the Kazakh brand, Yessimov met the general director of Turespaña, Marta Blanco in Madrid.
Yessimov said, “Taking into account that Turespaña is in charge of Spanish marketing in the world and manages the tourist brand of the country that enabled the kingdom to become a third country in the world for the number of received foreign tourists and to receive 6 percent of all tourists in the world, we hope our strategic partnership with your national organisation will primarily be in the sphere of attracting a large number of foreign guests.”
The parties decided to carry on with talks on subjects of joint importance with the goal of taking the agreement one step ahead.
