Do you remember the logo of Visit Malaysia 2020 that was immensely disparaged by many when it was first launched back in January by then Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz? You know exactly which one we mean!
After attracting criticism from everyone, Nazri tried his best to protect the logo, which was designed by “experienced in-house staff”. He explained the logo saying that it should look fun and colorful, NST reported. Also, he mentioned that the different symbols utilized in the logo like the orang utan, proboscis monkey, turtle and Twin Towers were iconic to Malaysia. Yeah, even those sunglasses!
The logo was opened for public at the Asean Tourism Forum 2018 in Chiang Mai, Thailand with the tagline, “Travel. Enjoy. Respect.” Many netizens who witnessed the logo mentioned that they could have done much better and true to their word, there were many redesigned logos circulating on social media that looked way more professional suitable.
Well, if you are one of those, then you may be thrilled to know that the new Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry has declared that they will be redoing the controversial Visit Malaysia 2020 logo, according to The Star. To get a good substitute for the logo that has been disapproved of as “amateurish” by many, Tourism Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi said that they are planning to hold a contest. Take note, creative minds!
“It will be an open contest this time. The idea is to get a proper design with Malaysians joining in to give their perspective,” he explained.
