According to the statement of Ministry, the number of overseas visitor arrival (FTAs) in India in the month of June 2017 was approximately 6.70 lakhs in comparison to the FTAs of 5.47 lakhs in June last year and 5.12 lakhs in June 2015 respectively.
It said, “The growth rate in FTAs in June 2017 over June 2016 is 22.5 percent compared to 6.8 percent in June 2016 over June 2015.”
Majority of visitors travelled to India from Bangladesh (29.23 percent) followed by the US (19.70 percent), the UK (6.14 percent), Malaysia (3.82 percent), Australia (2.56 percent), and China (2.52 percent) respectively.
On the other hand, with approximately 23 percent share of FTAs, the Delhi airport occupies the busiest airport position followed by Haridaspur Land Check Post on India-Bangladesh border (17.06 percent), Mumbai airport (14.98 percent), Chennai airport (9.06 percent) and Bengaluru airport (6.72 percent) respectively.
On the basis of the statistics received from the Bureau of Immigration (BOI), the Ministry accumulates monthly estimates of FTAs, counting those with e-tourist visas based on their nationality and port.
A considerable growth in the number of tourists arriving on e-visas was also seen in the month of June 2017.
“During the month of June, a total of 0.67 lakh tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 0.37 lakh during the month of June 2016 registering a growth of 81.7 percent,” the statement said.
