“We thought we would be flat and be the same as last year, but to see growth, we were thrilled,” said Michelle Thomson, President and CEO of the Black Hills and Badlands Tourism Association.
According to the association, the numbers are increasing because of a bigger push in digital marketing.
Thomson added, “Now we’ve got a really integrated approach that brings in technology. Either our website that brings in a million visitors a year or our Facebook, or digital campaigns we have. It brings a nice integrative approach to talk to people about the amazing experience you can have in the Black Hills.”
Digital marketing includes social media and other online platforms, and the online presence is aimed to grow more to attract more tourists for 2018.
Tech expert Eric Ellefson said that the way of advertisement is going to change drastically in the next ten years, and not the way people may think.
Ellefson said, “We see the mobile phone deteriorating. Everything will be pushed through glasses. I know this is hard to believe, but trust me in the next ten years, you are going to see more of the heads displays and finding information through visual means vs. texting and talking means.”
