‘Jamaica House Rio’, a hospitality hub will be set up at Prado Jockey Club near the Olympic Stadium, and that is how people from all over the world can enjoy the sports as well Jamaican hospitality.
Hon. Edmund Bartlett, the Minister of Tourism feels that it is not just about showing how good Jamaican athletes are, but also to “show the best of Jamaica in terms of commerce and business and the offerings we have in the international commercial world”.
The launch of the event was held at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on July 13, where Mr. Bartlett said that something like this is a chance to “drive more visitor arrivals, to drive greater revenue, and to create more jobs”.
He also added, “Our engagement in Rio is not just about entertainment, it’s not just about saying to the world, ‘here we are as a great athletic power’. It’s also saying to the world, ‘here we are as a country, as a destination, where you can invest, where you can enjoy relaxation, where you can have fun’.”
The Minister said the Government is well aware of the fact that Jamaica has great marketing options in the South American market, especially Brazil. He also added that the time will be utilised in such a way that they get to meet travel media, tour operators and travel partners to increase the number of visitors to the island.
He said, “We will be using the opportunity there to leverage the presence of Jamaica at the Olympics to drive our marketing arrangements.”
He acknowledged everyone who helped in making this thing a reality, “that will provide a new dimension to the appreciation of Jamaica, both as a destination of choice for tourists but also as the epicentre of global athletics.”
Hon. Olivia Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, who was also present, promoted the Jamaica Tourist Board’s scheme.
In its fifth turn, Jamaica House has become an organised integrated marketing concept involving work with various Government and private corporations.
The main intention of Jamaica House is to fill up the Olympic setting with Jamaican culture and destination Jamaica, so that people get driven to visit Jamaica.
Jamaica House, which will be held from August 10 to 21, will also generate networking opportunities for local tourism partners and stakeholders with the main head in the international office.
