This year, the Government, among other sectors, has given precedence to the tourism, agriculture, mining, energy, and industrialization, to grow the economy.
Bushcamp Company, and its secondary firm – Mfuwe Lodge, is situated in the South Luangwa National Park.
Andy Hogg, the managing director of the company said that the investment in tourism reverberate with Government’s determination to accelerate diversification of the economy via tourism.
Bushcamp Company has been awarded with the Partners’ Guide golden ribbon honor in pursuit of the company’s endorsement of the financial and social benefits that perk up living. Last year, National Geographic honored Bushcamp Company with a World Legacy Award, which is known for identifying leaders in sustainable tourism.
“We are proud of this award [by Partners’ Guide]. We believe that people are recognised for community and conservation work done to improve people’s lives and protect the environment,” Mr Hogg said.
He explained that it’s crucial that the local communities develop the habit of distributing the income earned from a variety of projects executed in the area.
Some of the projects embarked on by the company comprise ‘Meal a day’ programme. This offers a nutritious lunch-time meal everyday to more than 2,000 local school-going children.
