Even the colleges of Thailand produces more than 800 graduates annually, the country is yet to meet its huge demand in terms of airlines, cruise lines, hotels, and tourism. In the past 10 years, Thailand had more than 100,000 requirement of skilled labor to satisfy its need in the ever growing tourism industry being airline staffs on highest demand.
This growth will continue to expand in the coming decades creating more job opportunities for first-jobbers. To fill this gap, many colleges in Thailand have included tourism and hospitality in the curriculum. However, critical requirements are going to be the deciding factors in recruiting candidates for the dream profiles in various cruise lines and airlines. Few top notch employers will also look for efficiency of international standards in heights, language proficiency and expert swimming skills.
To quote Monticha Khruasuwan, dean of the College of Tourism and Hospitality at Sripatum University, ‘’ In Thailand, we are among 100 hotel or tourism schools producing fresh graduates to serve the market. Therefore, what we are doing differently from others is offering trained workers, not about to work after graduation. Under our slogan ‘The way you look, the way you speak, and the way you behave’, all students have to train and improve themselves to be persons of good character along with ability to communicate well in both Thai and foreign languages and to behave well in public from their first year of study’’.
