Tourism ties between Miami Beach and Jamaica tourism have been strengthened. The partnerships come as Southwest Airlines announced daily nonstop flights between Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Montego Bay, Jamaica, starting June this year, increasing connectivity to other cities in the U.S. as Jamaican tourism industry continues to grow.
A meeting was held in Kingston, Jamaica on Friday, where preliminary discussions regarding collaborative efforts between the Montego Bay Convention Centre and the Miami Beach Convention Centre; the twinning of Negril, Westmoreland with the city of Miami Beach and tourism investment partnerships between Jamaica and Miami Beach were mainly talked about.
Southwest is a major U.S. airline and the world’s largest low-cost carrier already with daily nonstop service into Montego Bay from Orlando Florida; Houston, Texas; Chicago, Illinois and Baltimore, Maryland. Being a long time friend of Bartlett, Mayor Levine noted the strong affinity between Jamaica and Miami Beach and expressed his confidence in growing tourism ties between the two destinations.
