The local authorities informed that most of the travellers were in their sixties. They also informed that after losing control, the bus plunged into the stream and partially submerged into water with all the travellers.
The emergency officials had to lift out a female traveller, who was trapped inside the wreckage after the crash. According to the emergency officials, the travellers were ‘lucky to be alive’.
The crash fatally wounded four of the travellers but the others received only minor injuries. All the travellers were taken to a nearby hospital after being rescued. According to the emergency officials, the wounded travellers were in stable condition.
The fire chief of the area, Neil Ranford expressed that they were very lucky as there were a couple of fatalities witnessed on that corner. He also informed that the travellers were all knocked around a bit from going down that bank and they were all looking a bit shocked.
The cause of the crash could not be known yet but according to weather report, the atmosphere was misty and it was also raining.
The director of the tour operating company ‘Moa Trek’, Mr. Miles Clark later informed that they were very sorry that this occurred on one of their tours and they were working hard to ensure that they do whatever they can to support their team member and their passengers. He also said that they would work with their industry colleagues to support, accommodate and revise travel arrangements as necessary for all those affected.
