Early on Tuesday morning the bodies of a female foreign tourist and also a regional male guide have been retrieved from the site of an accident on Table Mountain as mentioned by Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR).
Johann Marais who is a spokesperson of WSAR said that they had taken the bodies off the mountain using the cable car.
He also went on to assert that they were capable of extracting the surviving female off the mountain last night, making use of the cable car as a rigging point from which to abseil.
The sole survivor of the incident, also a foreign tourist had to be taken straight to hospital for treatment.
But the extent of her injuries is yet to be known.
Marais has mentioned that after rescuing the female survivor, the cable car was placed back into use to bring down the approximately 800 tourists who were stranded on the mountain during the rescue operation.
He then said that the alarm was raised around 5 p.m. on Monday when the cable car passengers reported witnessing climbers ‘hanging on ropes’ on Arrow Final that is a face first ascended in 1897 and graded 11 on a scale of difficulty ranging from 5 to 38.
The cable car company had sent people up the mountain, on foot to reopen the restaurant where people stranded could wait and receive refreshments as well.
Everyone was brought back to the base by 2.00 and the cable car was then utilized to extricate the bodies.
The gender of the two people who died were clarified by Marais on Tuesday as it was previously thought that they were both men.
