The new “Kaziranga Express” has been proposed by Rajen Gobain, India’s Minister of State for Railways, who hails from Assam. The proposed railway line will cover more than 2,000km and would be operating along similar lines as the Tiger Express services that have recently been introduced between Delhi with Bandhavgarh and Kanha national parks in Madhya Pradesh.
Kaziranga National Park, which sees the footfall of thousands of tourists every year, is one of the finest places to spot single-horned rhinoceroses, along with tigers, elephants and other species.
Managing director of the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), Anurag Singh said that the project is likely to be finalised in October 2016. He added that the tourism authority is working on the itinerary and is trying to focus on the model which will be sustained for a long time.
This itinerary is also expected to incorporate the Kamakhya Temple, Manas National Park and Assam’s tea plantations. Travellers will be offered with full packages including train travel, accommodation, meals, and jungle safaris.
