At the Medak district of Telangana in India, tourists can choose to stay for an entire day inside a jail from the colonial-era, in exchange of just Rs. 500. The authorities will let the tourists get a first-hand experience of prison life, just like criminals.
The jail in question has been built in 1796, under the Nizam rule in Hyderabad.
The colonial-era jail is 220 years old and is situated at Sangareddy. The jail has been recovered by the government and it has been turned into a museum for tourists to visit. The authorities of the prisons department are offering a unique initiative for the tourists, named as “Feel the Jail”. It will confine the visitors behind bars to give them a taste of prison life.
During their stay at the jail, tourists will also be provided with a prison uniform made of khadi fabric, a fan, a mug, a steel plate and glass, beddings, soaps etc. according to the state prison manual.
The tourist-prisoners will also have to clean the barracks and plant saplings during their jail-time, just like prisoners.
