As per Venice, the Italian lagoon city’s hotel booking figures show, visitors heading towards the city are increasingly reserving their trips for the city’s famous carnival at the last minute. This year, the festival will involve events from February 11-28 and is popular all around the world for its finely decorated masks, elaborate costumes and mysterious atmosphere.
Claudio Scarpa, Director-General of Venice hotel association Ava said that there is good demand for the two weekends for hotels during the carnival period. To quote Scarpa, “It is evident that the trend is increasingly about booking last-minute, but from the first figures we can say that we are dealing with two weekends of extremely high demand. There is in any case space for those who want to stay in Venice and live the magic of the most famous cultural event in the world.”
According to municipality data, this carnival brings wealth to parts of the city which offers hotels, apartments and rooms for rent. However, there are many hotels which are not open. Scarpa said, “In this period, from December to January, about 20% of accommodation structures associated with Ava are closed.
The closures are mainly due to seasonal reasons, but many hotels benefit from the low season period to carry out renovations work.” Hotels and other accommodations outside the historical center also do good business during the carnival time. The carnival attracts many foreign tourists to Venice.
