Þingvellir anglicised as Thingvellir, which is one of the most favoured destination in Iceland, a national park is not deterred by the tourists though there are much downpour and torrential precipitation.
It’s also the place where the tectonic plates of North American and Eurasian tectonic plates come together in a unique way, which the tourists can also see by the frequent crevasses that form the natural landscape.
This month receives much rainfall there, but the tourists are surging there.
At Þingvellir – literally “Parliament Plains” – the Alþing general assembly was established around 930 and continued to convene there until 1798.
There are major events in the history of Iceland have taken place at Þingvellir and therefore the place is held in high esteem by all Icelanders.
Today Þingvellir is a protected national shrine and a national park prospered with Golden Circle and Silfra Lake. This place also attracted the tourists for the snorkeling and scuba diving.
