Travel Alert: Hurricane Irma Impacting Operations

American Airlines has issued a Travel Alert for more than 40 airports, which includes our Miami hub.The latest forecast projects Hurricane Irma to make landfall in South Florida this weekend, resulting in more than 2,200 canceled flights throughout our worldwide network.


Operations in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, West Palm Beach and other airports will be canceled throughout the weekend. Flights originating from Europe and South America that were scheduled to arrive Friday have also been canceled.



The current travel alert that has been issued allows customers whose travel plans are impacted by Hurricane Irma to rebook without change fees. Customers can reschedule their travel on by retrieving their reservation, or by contacting American reservations at +1-800-433-7300 in the U.S. or Canada. Customers calling from outside the U.S. or Canada should check for our worldwide reservation phone numbers. Customers are also encouraged to check the status of their flight on If an American flight has been canceled or excessively delayed, customers may cancel their reservation and request a full refund by visiting our website. Customers who booked through a travel agent are requested to contact their agency directly.



While there are limited seats remaining before the storm hits, we have capped our fares at $99 each way for Main Cabin, and $199 for premium cabin, on direct, single leg flights from cities covered under the Travel Alert, which is now in place for more than 40 airports. These fares will apply for flights out of the affected area for through Sept. 17.
