Travel ban described as hostile and discriminatory by World Tourism Organization

UNWTO logoThe World Tourism Organization has condemned Trump administration on his recent immigration and travel related actions. The World Tourism Organization is a specialized agency of United Nations for tourism. It expressed its deepest apprehensions over the recently declared decree on travel ban by the US on seven countries like Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Iran, Somalia, Libya and Yemen.

 
This travel ban is contrary to rule of freedom of travel and travel facilitation and nationality based. It will adversely affect the tourism sector by hampering new job opportunities and economic prospect including United States.

 
To quote Taleb Rifai, UNWTO Secretary-General, “Global challenges demand global solutions and the security challenges that we face today should not prompt us to build new walls; on the contrary, isolationism and blind discriminatory actions will not lead to increased security but rather to growing tensions and threats. Besides the direct impact, the image of a country which imposes travel bans in such a hostile way will surely [affect] visitors from all over the world and risk dumping travel demand to the USA’’.
