“In terms of tangible improvements to the air travel system, the Senate FAA bill is as underwhelming as a bunt in a tee ball game. The opportunity to go big by modernizing all aspects of aviation infrastructure has never been this ripe.
“Any fair evaluation would knock both chambers’ current products for their failure to fully address growth, connectivity, and pro-traveler measures. Most glaringly, a golden opportunity is being squandered to deliver on President Trump’s campaign pledge to modernize America’s dilapidated airport infrastructure.
“We’re especially perplexed by the initial offering from a Senate Commerce panel stacked with members who genuinely appreciate the economic importance of travel. And while the House T&I committee deserves credit for attempting to modernize air traffic control, their singular focus omits the president’s campaign pledge to rebuild America’s strapped and outdated airports.
“We remain hopeful that legislators step up and leverage rare bipartisan consensus by ignoring mercenary outside groups who refuse to acknowledge that having zero airports in the top 25 globally is untenable.”
